Luke’s Ramblings – Rock Band of Sparta!

I’ve made it home and share with you my thoughts on Rock Band and Hero of Sparta!  There’s even a sneak peek of a future blog post.  :-O

These “Luke’s Ramblings” have really been a blast for me to make, so expect more of them in the future.  I’m planning on having at least one a week, and a maximum of three.

One quick other note:  I’ve changed the RSS feed to a feedburner feed just so it’s easier for everyone if I ever switch where I host my audio.  This puppy will be in iTunes soon!

#20 – The Gamer Lounge Podcast – Touch Me, Thrill Me

Our twentieth episode has arrived!  It’s a little bit different of a recording setup this time, but really it sounds even better, which is rather surprising.  As you can tell from the above picture, we are going to talk about Michael Jackson, the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch, Serious Sam HD, and Best Buy selling used games and movies.  Other topics include my time with a PS3, Hero of Sparta, PSP Phone, 25 games you should play before you die, and more!

And by all means, don’t be shy about leaving reviews on iTunes or contacting the show!  In fact, it would be much appreciated.

Even Gods Like Achievements

There are thousands of apps on the app store, but few (if any) have as many consistent and fun updates as Pocket God does.  What was simply a random purchase for me, ended up becoming one of my favorite apps.  As much as I love Pandora, I could care less when it updates.  But Pocket God?  That I must download as fast as possible!  :-)

As I’ve mentioned on the podcast a few times, achievements are starting to grow on me more and more everyday.  They make you try things you normally wouldn’t in a game, and give you a reason to keep playing long after you beat it.  Granted, Pocket God isn’t necessarily something you’ll sit down and play for an hour straight, but it does keep you occupied for a few minutes which is what should be the goal of all mobile games.  This new addition of achievements just adds a little bit more fun and incentive to play.  Long line at the grocery store?  Pull out your iPod/iPhone and try to get more than 5 shark snaps!

Now I know the T-Rex battle was not added on this update, but, oh, is it fun! I have tons of apps on my iPod Touch now, but I often just don’t have the time some of them require to get some fun out of them.  A quick 30 second battle with a T-Rex is, however, always a fast and easy way to past time.

I leave you with this.  Pocket God only costs $.99, and it’s probably the best buck you’ll ever spend.

The iPhone 3GS!

Apple’s WWDC conference just recently ended, and the iPhone 3GS was announced!  This is new hardware people!  The thing that really stood out to me was the fact that it finally has a video camera in it, and the included camera has been bumped up to 3 megapixels.

Now if only AT&T would expand their coverage to my part of Nebraska…

Check out the full feature list HERE and a comparison to the old 3G HERE.

#17 – Gamer Lounge Episode – E3 and More!

It has been FOREVER since we’ve put out a new episode, but now we finally did.  Considering the fact that tonight’s episode went so well, the chances of us staying consistent are really good now.  Since we had 6 months worth of stuff to cover, this was an extra long show. Topics included E3, UP, and pretty much everything else that’s in the below mountain of tags. At a little over an hour and a half, the show should keep you busy until next Sunday!  :-)

Marble Blast Mobile!

After playing the Xbox 360 version of the title, I was quite please to see this sitting on the featured page of the mobile app store.  At $4.99 this thing is a steal, and I recommend you try it out.  I made a little audio review I though I would share with you:

#13 – Gamer Lounge Episode – Touchy Apprentices

It’s finally here!  A new episode featuring both Larry and I!  If I do say so myself, this is our best episode yet.  We wrote out some notes to follow during the show, things flow smoothly, and there were no sound hiccups that I could find.

Some topics are Spore: Origins and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for the iPod touch/iPhone, free MMO subscription models, Diablo 3 before Starcraft 2, Wrath of the Lich King release date, Warhammer Online, Smallville, Marble Blast Ultra, Star Wars TV series, Larry’s new mac, and more!

Did I mention we actually had a little bit of viewer/listener input this time?  I read one of the comments on the blog dealing with the free subscription model.  That could be you next time!  So leave a comment or send an email to gamerloungepodcast@gmail.com

Influential Exponential! – Gamer Lounge Episode

So I’m sure many of you are wondering, “Why is there a crashed Ferrari here?”  The answer is for two reasons!  Numero Uno, Castle Crashers is a topic on this particular episode.  Numero Dos, is because The Gamer Lounge has gone under a sort of crash, if you will, due to school.  Because of this, the last three (I think that’s right) episodes have been only me.  However, Larry and I should be recording together again this weekend.  As Larry would say, “Woot!”  :-D

But enough of that, let’s talk about what’s on this episode!  Castle Crashers, Tropic Thunder, Star Wars Clone Wars, Orange Box, Watchmen, new iPods, Genius and so much more!  Reviews, Previews, and thoughts and rants.  As always, this week’s episode is worth a listen!

Timed Buttons Presses Unleashed!

As you may know, I am super excited about the upcoming Star Wars game The Force Unleashed. However, after hearing today that to kill bosses you need to successfully complete a series of timed button presses, I’m not so sure anymore. If this is true, hopefully it isn’t a make or break deal. If I have to start the whole level over again because I didn’t hit one button right, (download the Bourne Conspiracy demo if you want to experience that! :-) ) that would suck!

Apparently the boss fights are relatively slow going as well. I don’t mind this so much though considering in the movies the fights were always long and drawn out as well. But again, the button pressing sounds stupid. I guess I would have to try it first before I could really say anything, but the thought of bringing down a giant rancor with my upgraded force lightning sounds way cooler to me!

On a final note Xbox Magazine rated it a 7.5, which isn’t great, but still pretty good.  We shall see I guess.

Actually, on another even more final note, they OXM gave Castle Crashers an 8.5!  Nice!  For once this issue has reviews super early!  Now if only the demos weren’t always a few months old…
